TRUE FORMS OF FIVE ELEMENTS
The Five Elements aren’t sacred symbols or relics of old belief. They were once tools - ways to sense the world through growth, collapse, flow, fracture, and return. Over time, they became sealed words, used but no longer felt. This series breaks them open again. It represents not the form but the tendency - how wood moves, how water seeps, how metal cuts. I work with collage, overlays, and inversion. These are not just techniques, but gestures of resistance: cutting, shifting, refusing to settle into fixed meaning. This series is not a conclusion. The Five Elements were never meant to be closed. They live in motion, contradiction, breath. If they’ve turned static, then image must disturb them - make them fluid, uncertain, alive again.
Wood is the posture of emergence. It moves upward, not as decorative branches, but as pressure from within. Cracks, seams, and tension do not imitate growth - they outline a structure that keeps testing its own limits. It enlightens without preaching, pushes without force, reaches without resistance.
Fire rises, and it spreads. It has no center - only a will to occupy space. Overexposure and color spill come from a refusal to be controlled. It doesn’t seek balance; it creates presence that can’t be avoided. Propagation is its path; intensity is its routine.
Earth doesn’t just carry - it decides what gets to remain. It slows, absorbs, and disperses, turning motion into the possibility of rest. Dense layering and inward collapse don’t aim for weight, but stretch the scale of time. It doesn’t rush to respond, but gives everything a place to stay.
Metal cuts. It doesn’t negotiate or unfold - it ends, or starts a new round. With sharp geometry, it compacts complexity, sharpens detail, and reserves space not for stillness, but for reckoning. It is not indifferent. It simply knows where to fold, and when to stop.
Water infiltrates. It doesn’t insist on form, yet is always present. Fracture, inversion, and displacement don’t signal uncertainty - they approach a state of constant flow without fixation. It reveals nothing, but alters every surface. It moves downward, doesn’t contend, yet goes everywhere.
